He whakaari reo Māori, he whakaari waiata hoki a Whakapaupākihi nā te whānau Tuari e kōrero ana mo ngā takahanga a te tokotoru a Iranui. Ko Taua-i-te-rangi tēnā rātou ko Mahaki-ewe-karoro, ko Hauiti.

Written and composed by the Tuari siblings, Whakapaupākihi is a musical adaptation of the feats and some history of three eponymous East Coast ancestors known as the three sons of Iranui. They are Taua-i-te-rangi, Mahaki-ewe-karoro and Hauiti.

With a hint of Divergent, and a dash of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Whakapaupākihi, serves to tell the epic story of three brothers who fought against each other to maintain autonomy for their people.

Combining kapa haka and theatre, Te Tairāwhiti Arts Festival will be staging the first reading of this home-grown musical. You don’t want to miss out!

Performed in Te Reo Māori.
