Smokefreerockquest is a nationwide, live, original music, youth event giving young musicians the opportunity to perform live in a professional setting, in venues from Northland to Southland. This year is the 36th year for the programme.
Run alongside Smokefreerockquest is Smokefree Tangata Beats (previously named Pasifika Beats).
Smokefree Tangata Beats is a live, original music, nationwide, youth event that recognises and reflects the unique cultural identity of Aotearoa New Zealand and the South Pacific. This competition is about supporting and promoting our unique Identity in Aotearoa, our Tangata Whenua and the amazing cultures present in our beautiful country. The young musicians mix their identities and cultures with contemporary music.
We will be hosting two regional events – a heat and a final.
May 26 – Regional Heat.
All regional Smokefreerockquest and Smokefree Tangata Beats entrants perform at the heat – which will determine the winning regional solo/duo acts, Smokefree Tangata Beats winners, and the top 12 Smokefreerockquest bands.
June 24 – Regional Final
The final will host the top 12 Smokefreerockquest bands – and determine the winning bands, going onto national finalist consideration.
