Join friends and whānau for a fun day of kites, kai, waiata and waka as we shine a light on our place and our people here in Te Tairāwhiti.
Kicking off our first Te Tairāwhiti Arts Festival weekend, the Eastland Community Trust proudly presents Up, up and Away! Manu Aute Kite Day – a free event for all the whānau.
Featuring a line-up of local and global talent, from kaihaka to kaumoana (performers to voyagers) you’re bound to find your own fun.
The day will be full of musical performances and the best of our own homegrown talent, including a special performance from Anika Moa (Songs for Bubbas). Arts, crafts and workshops will provide plenty to do. While those fascinated by the arrival of the waka flotilla will be able to celebrate our international voyaging community, as we acknowledge our connections across Te Moana Nui-ā-Kiwa.
But best of all we’ll get to look to the skies as we fly manu aute (kites) of all shapes and sizes – traditional and contemporary.
Celebrate as Te Tairāwhiti Arts Festival comes to life. Nau mai, haere mai, we can’t wait to see you there.
