Whakapaupākihi
An adaptation of the feats and histories of three eponymous East Coast ancestors - Taua-i-te-rangi, Mahaki-ewe-karoro and Hauiti. This musical is written by the Tuari family. Namely Ani-Piki, Tatana, Tame-Hoake and Hamiora - multi-faceted practitioners with numerous talents that overlap into creative fields such as Kapa Haka, Theatre, Mau Rākau, Music, Visual Arts, Education and bilingual composition work.
Aroha The Musical
An original musical in development that tells a tragic story of forbidden love. Set at the collision point of two worlds – AROHA is a love story with a twist. Written and featuring translations in the Reo Māori by Kimoro Taipei, the central characters play out the differences of culture and world view – the English son of a captain and the daughter of a Rangatira...
Mozart Requiem, Opening Movement
The Gisborne Choral Society presents a sneak peek at music being prepared for a concert of movie music, in conjunction with the Civic Orchestra and Concert Band. It is one of the masterworks for choir and orchestra combined, and provided the dramatic soundtrack for movie Amadeus. Like many such works by great composers, it is a setting of traditional church music in Latin; yet it still grabs the modern secular audience - its long-lost but beautiful language gives it a multicultural timelessness.
