I Ain’t Mad At Cha

Named after US superstar Tupac Shakur’s song, I Ain't Mad At Cha is about a young teenager from Gisborne who struggles with being Māori and being judged by his own people.  Kiwa’s done with being judged – worst of all by his own people. How come black American fullas who live 20,000km away make him feel more at home than his own people do?

It’s 1999 and Kiwa struggles with the whole “being Māori” thing. If it’s not his bro giving him shit about being a ‘wanna-be’ rapper, it’s his GF Izzy who wants the world, or the local dairy owner who knows all about ‘his kind’ of people, or worst of all, his own Uncle Hamu – a local cop and local douche bag.
